A puddle of melted ice cream transformed the way Eric Telchin views the world. Now, Eric’s intention is to create artwork that changes the way the world views the world.

On July 31, 2009 Eric hosted a party for a friend at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida. While serving his guests sundaes, he spilled chocolate ice cream on his kitchen counter. Before he could wipe up the puddle of melted ice cream, he noticed it miraculously formed a heart. Amazed, he photographed this first found heart with his iPhone’s camera. Since then, Eric has seen and captured hearts in the most extraordinary (as well as mundane) places such as animals, litter, food and nature.

In the subsequent year-and-a-half, Eric has seen and photographed more than 1300 found hearts with his iPhone. He transforms these images into abstract matrices as well as representational designs. He launched Boy Sees Hearts in October, 2010 with the purpose of sharing the art and message of the hearts with others. For some, these hearts represent viewing one’s surroundings from a perspective of appreciation. For others, these hearts represent universal love.

When people from around the world began emailing Eric photos of hearts they began seeing, he launched World Sees Hearts, a destination for people to share their found hearts. 50% of proceeds from Eric’s World Sees Hearts artwork is donated to the It Gets Better Project, a charitable organization which encourages LGBT Youth to view the world optimistically.

In November 2010, producers from ABC’s primetime hit, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” commissioned Eric to create a 10ft x 9ft “Heart Wall” for a Texas family's home featured on an episode airing in early, 2011.

In December, 2010 Eric launched a line of Limited-Edition Gallery Pieces at Karen Lynne Gallery in Boca Raton, Florida. This collection elevates the found hearts to a more abstract and dynamic level. “In the gallery pieces, the viewer is challenged: Challenged to negotiate the more frenetic energy of these more complex composition; challenged to find the hearts within the iPhone captures.” Telchin says. These larger-than-life Limited Edition Pieces are printed on metallic paper, backed with aluminum and faced with plexi-glass, creating an imposing and sleek effect, escalating the hearts to not only a bigger scale, but more polished and sophisticated presentation.

"In less than two months, these hearts have reached people across the globe. They've been commissioned for a smash hit on primetime network TV. A Limited Edition series is featured in the most incredible gallery in South Florida. What's most inspiring to me, however, is the little girl who e-mailed me after she had a tough day until she saw heart in her grilled cheese sandwich." Eric said.

Eric Telchin studied Fine Art at the George Washington University as a Presidential Arts Scholar. Previously, his work has been featured in the New York State Museum, in Albany, New York as well as the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C..
